McCaffrey’s Food Markets honored as Newtown Business of the Year!

NEWTOWN >> Bucks County-based McCaffrey’s Food Markets has been named Business of the Year by the Newtown Business Association.

The honor was bestowed by the NBA during its annual awards breakfast held Jan. 25 at Chandler Hall to recognize the businesses and individuals who donated their time and energy to promoting 18940 in 2018.

The Business of the Year award is given annually to an “exemplary” NBA-member business for helping fulfill the NBA’s mission of promoting Newtown as a great place to live, work and play.

NBA President Bill Sheffer, the vice president and commercial lender with The First National Bank of Newtown, presented the award in appreciation of the grocer’s sponsorship of the Newtown Holiday Parade, one of the biggest in Bucks County.

On hand to accept the award were Jim McCaffrey III and his son, Jim McCaffrey IV, who thanked the NBA for its work throughout the year.

“We are certainly honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Jim McCaffrey III. “It’s organizations like this that make us a community. All of you should be receiving this award for all that you do all the time in this great community. Hats off to you and thank you so much for this great honor.”

The McCaffrey’s opened their first supermarket in Bucks County in 1986 in the Edgewood Village Shopping Center in Lower Makefield. The company, based in Middletown Township, now has stores in Yardley, Newtown, Blue Bell, Doylestown, Princeton and West Windsor, New Jersey.

The McCaffrey’s are a beloved and respected family in the greater Bucks County community known for their philanthropic and personal support.

Through the years, they have been strong advocates and supporters of the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, St. Mary Medical Center and the Garden of Reflection (the official state memorial to those who died on 9-11), among many other community groups and organizations.

The Business of the Year award is one of six community service awards handed out by the NBA this year.
